Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman has defended the attendance of the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland at the National Famine Commemoration. The event, attended by Taoiseach Simon Harris and organised by Catherine Martin’s Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media was held in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford on Sunday. It was held to remember the one million people who died during the Great Famine of 1845 to 1851. Pictures showing Dana Erlich, the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland, in attendance at the event began to circulate online on Sunday evening.
